Will Forte as MacGruber
Production has recently started on a MacGruber movie based off of the SNL skit. The skit per usual with SNL is a one note joke parodying MacGyver. MacGruber (Will Forte) and company find themselves in a sticky situation week after week in which MacGruber needs to come up with a brilliant device created from simple objects in the room. Only he seems to have ADHD as he gets distracted easily and loses focus on the task at hand which leaves him prone to exploding. How this will work as a full length feature I do not know but I am eager to find out because the sketches do happen to be wicked funny.

The film is supposedly going to have a hard R rating which would make it the only other R rated SNL spin off since the original Blues Brothers movie. Also starring as the villain is Val Kilmer! So a movie based on a funny sketch, hard R, and staring Val Kilmer sounds good to me! Let’s just hope it goes the way of Wayne’s World and not It’s Pat. On a sidenote I'd still love to see a Toonces the driving cat movie.

According to industry rumors (see how professional and attractive I sound?), Godzilla is going to be remade once again for American audiences. The company, Legendary Pictures, is responsible for such movies as The Dark Knight and others that aren't The Dark Knight. Godzilla fans should be pumped: Legendary Pictures seems to have their heads on straight as far as a studio goes and have made some badass films in the past few years (Dark Knight, Dark Knight, Watchmen).

This is the part where everyone is going to say "it'll probably be better than P.O.S. 1998 Roland Emmerich debacle", but you know what? I love that movie, so shut your mouth! Granted, I can see why people hate it, but that's a big part of my childhood. Let's just hope that whoever makes this movie either does a really good update from the 50's version or throws in some crazy ass monster fights. As much as I dig the 1998 version...raptor-zillas aren't exactly cool you know?

Oh and if Legendary Pictures is reading...I'm free to write the script. In fact, I'll pay YOU for the chance. No I won't. Okay, yes I will.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is based off the stories of Tucker Max, the writer of the book of the same title as well as his infamous website TuckerMax.com. Based off the Austin Road Trip story from both his book and his website, the film centers around Tucker who takes his two friends out to the greatest strip club in the world, and all the chaos that ensues because of it. It's a road trip movie, a buddy comedy, and judging by the trailer, a comedy that will be both hilarious and controversal.

I love Tucker Max's writing, and could care less if it is real or not. The trailer does not disappoint, and already has lines worth quoting ("fat chicks aren't real people"). I can see this movie being a douchebag's paradise, but I don't care. The trailer is a bit neutered, but there's talk of a red band trailer in the future, so all the Tucker Max fans can get pumped to truly get the essence of the film.

Watch the trailer, lemme know what you think, and bask in the hilarity this movie promises...and hopefully delivers.

I Hope they Serve Beer in Hell comes out September 25th.

1. Funny People - 23.4 million (23.4M)
2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 17.7 million (255m)
3. G-Force - 17.1 million (66.5m)
4. The Ugly Truth - 13 million (54.5m)
5. Aliens in the Attic - 7.8 million (7.8m)
6. Orphan - 7.25 million (26.8m)
7. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - 5.3 million (182m)
8. The Hangover - 5.08 million (256m)
9. The Proposal - 4.85 million (159m)
10. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 4.6 million (388m)

As expected, Funny People was the winner at the box office this weekend. The Judd Apatow film with a star studded cast beat out the competition, but also underperforming from his other two films and may be the one that grosses less. Maybe finally Apatow will stop putting his name on everything. Probably not.

Ugly Truth and Proposal still hold strong, and still proves that women do not care about the feminist movement.

Transformers is almost off the top ten, but is even closer to the 400 million boom. Once again, shame on you America for letting Michael Bay make money.

On the bright side, The Hangover is still raking in the dough and hopefully that leads to more non-Judd Apatow good R-rated comedies. As long as they don't have Katherine Heigl, but she's too feminist to do such low roles...wait...

Anyway, that's the box office jargon I've got for you this week. This looks a lot harder than I thought it would.

NEW RELEASES AUGUST 7TH: GI Joe Rise of the Cobra (guaranteed to ruin everyone's childhood), Julie and Julia (I want to see this, but don't tell my guy friends that), Shorts (...ugh), and A Perfect Getaway (...who?).

Until next week...something witty.

According to E! Online, Ridley Scott has announced plans to direct an Alien prequel. While the script hasn't even been written yet, fans everywhere should get somewhat excited: he is the man who created the series and is one of the best science fiction directors ever (anyone who doubts the awesome of Blade Runner shall be punished).

I feel two things: first, I'm glad he's returning to the syfy (*rimshot*) genre, as I like those movies a lot more than I've liked any of his others (Gladiator is the exception). Buuuut, I'm not the biggest Alien fan on the planet. I found it plodding and boring, although I'm sure it was groundbreaking at the time. It would've been more of a boon to get James Cameron to agree to it, as he created the best entry in the series. Oh well.

Alien nerds (and Chris), here's your chance to make everyone forget Resurrection and the two horrible AVP movies.
